More information about the various wine regions of Australia:

Barossa Valley is located around 60km north of Adelaide, less than a hours drive so it's quite easy to do day trips there if you are limited on time to explore this excellent wine region. The Barossa Vintage Festival is the largest wine festival run in Australia, held at the end of April into May every year . Wineries in the barossa Valley include Saltrams Wines, Barossa Valley Estate, St Hallet Winery, Grant Burge Wines, Bethany Wines and Henschke Wines. Check on some of the wine tours that are available.

Hunter Valley around a 2.5 hour drive north of Sydney. With over 120 wineries, including some of the largest wineries in Australia and some specialize boutique wineries. Wineries include Peppers Creek Vineyards, Golden Grape Estates, Wandin Valley Estates, McGuigans Wines  and Peacock Hill Wines. Check out the Hunter Valley Boutique Wine Tours

Margaret River is located around 277km south of Perth, around a 4 hour drive. There are around 90 wineries in the Margaret River Region. Madfish Wines, Watershed Premium Wines, Voyager Estates, Juniper Estate Wines and Zanadu Wines.

McLaren Vale is only 35km from Adelaide, around 40 minutes drive. There are 54 wineries in McLaren Vale and most are open for visitors and wine tasting. Chapel Hill, Fox Creek Wines, Woodstock Wines, Haselgrove Wines and Maxwell Wines.

Mornington Peninsular is 94km from the centre of Melbourne, a fairly easy 1 hour 45 minutes drive. With over 50 wineries to visit including Red Hill Estate,  Blue Stonelane Winery Tucks Ridge Vineyard  Crittenden Estate, and Nazaaray Estate Winery. Victoria Wine Tours run tours from Melbourne to not only Mornington Peninsula but also to Yarra Valley and Macedon Ranges.

Mudgee is around 266km west of Sydney, around a 3.5 hour drive. There are a few places along the way that are worth visiting including the Blue Mountains. There is also a small airport in Mudgee so charter flights are available as well as some commercial flights. Peter Van Gent, Huntingtons, Thistle Hill, Burnbrae Wines and Logan Wines. Mudgee Food and Wine Festival is run every year in September. There is also a Mudgee Food and Wine Festival held in Sydney at Balmoral Beach in August. There are over 40 wineries around the Mudgee region.

Sydney Wine Centre is located at 122 Young St Annandale. Offers wine appreciation courses and wine tasting evenings.

The Vine Press offer a 4 week wine appreciation course, introductory and advanced courses available.

 

Yarra Valley is located just under 1 hours drive from Melbourne. Yarra Valley grows around 30 varietys of grapes to make a range of white wines, red wines, sparkling wines, tawny wines and fortified wines.
